Mixed bag of winter precip tonight and tomorrow

Posted: 2014/01/31 in Weather

It is too close of a call between freezing rain and cold wet rain tonight into tomorrow, but the evening commute tonight could get dicey if wintry mix falls at the wrong time.  The NWS models are going anywhere from 0.05 to 0.25 inch icy glaze around the I-270 corridor with less than an inch of snow.  The weather models are still subject to change, however.

It does not take a lot of freezing rain to cause huge problems.  In fact, snow hitting at the wrong time shut down a major city earlier this week (that state does next to nothing with snow removal compared to MoDOT or IDOT) on just 2 inches.  It was just three weeks ago where 2 inches fell on the I-270 corridor at the wrong time and caused chaos on the hill by the Lilac exit – the gridlock from that was nothing compared to Atlanta and Birmingham got on the same amount of snow.
