Crews will be out this morning almost as soon as the morning peak ends on the westbound lanes, and the right lane will not reopen until the morning peak on Monday.

Expect delays for Friday, especially in the evening peak hour where westbound traffic could back up all the way to 255. Since the westbound lanes are actually in poor shape (complete with that steel plate near the Riverview ramp), the consequences of the crews missing that 5 AM Monday morning deadline can be severe.

Heavier than normal state police enforcement can be expected this weekend, due to the reduced speed limits and because this was posted yesterday:

Weather permitting, there will be lane restrictions on EB/WB 270 between 255 and 157 on Sunday for the purpose of utility crews to finish a power pole replacement.  There could be full mainline blockages up to 15 minutes at random times during the day.  From 07:00 to 20:00 two lanes in each direction will be blocked, so plan on using 162 or New Poag Road to get around.

If you decide to go through 270, don’t be this guy getting busted allegedly doing 91 just to the east of Route 3:

OR the one that did at least 110:

The bottom line: expect reduced speed limits and expect them to be enforced.

Late last night, state police responded to what appeared to be a stalled vehicle on the river bridge.  Patrols on this section of 270 had been heavier than normal as it was an holiday weekend, especially during the overnight hours.  (One of the admins personally witnessed two people get pulled over on Sunday night along 270.)  Upon arriving, the driver was passed out, forcing emergency crews to block the eastbound lanes.

No additional information has been released, due to the privacy laws and the suspicious nature of the incident.  Expect heavier than normal patrols by the state police to continue, as weekend work is expected to begin later this summer.

UPDATE 6/10/16:  Sadly, the man involved in the incident passed away on 6/7/16.  While we have a policy of keeping the victims anonymous, the victim’s family made a Facebook post wanting their story to be shared.  This incident is still under investigation.

This weekend, being an holiday weekend, usually means that the Illinois State Police will be out in large numbers enforcing the traffic laws. Because it is now September, the weekends means the potential for large groups of motorcycles taking part in the infamous event called Ride of the Century.  This evening, one of the known participants confirmed the date to be 9/5, but did not give time, location, or any other details as the organizers have kept a lot of the information under wraps.

What is not a secret, however, is that the majority of the annual rides have opted for this section of 270.

Some of the videos that featured sections of 270 further into North County which we are not sharing have gotten over 1M views on YouTube. The ride in 2010, which we are not sharing any footage due to the offensive nature of the clip, involved alleged flashing on the canal bridge.

The motorcyclists will travel in large groups of at least 1000+ and will cause delays when they come. This ride has gotten media attention in the previous years.

The good news is that August did not yield any major incidents, but September has not gotten off to a good start during the morning peak periods:

The monitoring of the account of the morning peak has been spotty the past two weeks – one of the admins that normally wakes up around 06:00 is now dealing with a later than normal wake up time due to an injury and is unable to drive at the present time.  Due to this send any tweets to @y98lance or @ontimestl as this account is not monitored 24/7 (if there is an serious accident you may also send tweets to @foxtrafficdiva).  The people that do tweet the conditions are not always able to do it instantly due to cell phone driving laws that are in place, and sometimes are done on a delay.  Someone just mentioned on Facebook that the google traffic maps are sometimes inaccurate, so please check the live feed camera for 270/Riverview as MoDOT has gotten that feed back up – before you make that trip.
